Deliver Birth Justice

The goal of #DeliverBirthJustice is to make everyone in our community aware that Black mothers do not get the same level of care as other mothers during pregnancy, birth and beyond.

Because of this, Black babies are 2 to 3 times more likely to be born too soon, too small, or to die before their first birthday. Black mothers are 3 to 4 times more likely to die during pregnancy and childbirth.

#DeliverBirthJustice focuses on the reasons Black mothers do not get equal care, such as structural racism* and bias. Also, it is meant to inspire people working in healthcare, policymakers and community members to drive change and promote the well-being of Black mothers and their families. 

*“Structural racism” is the way history, culture and institutions cause harm to people of color.

The #DeliverBirthJustice campaign began in July 2021. It is a group effort between five Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Santa Clara, and Solano.
