Immunizations for Adults
What vaccines do I need?
- Recommended Adult Immunization Schedule for ages 19 years or older, United States, 2023
Vaccines for pregnant women
Before pregnancy:
Whether it is your first baby, or you are planning to have another child, talk with your doctor about which shots you need.
- MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)
- Flu (Influenza)- once a year
- Chickenpox
- Hepatitis
- Other immunizations recommended by your doctor
During pregnancy:
Your baby counts on you for BEST protection. During pregnancy, flu is more likely to cause serious problems for you and your baby. Whooping cough can also be deadly for newborn babies. Ask your doctor for:
- Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough)-as early as possible during your third trimester, even if you got it before pregnancy)
- Flu –once a year
Getting these shots is very safe. The protection you get from these shots passes to your baby in the womb. This will help to protect your baby until they are old enough to be immunized against these diseases.
After pregnancy:
Newborns are too young to get flu and whooping cough shots. Getting these shots while you are pregnant gives the most protection, but it’s not too late.
To further protect your baby:
- Ask family, friends, and caregivers to get their flu shot and make sure they are up to date on other shots, like whooping cough and measles.
