UPDATE: Public Health Department Statement on Monkeypox  

The County of Santa Clara Public Health Department has identified a probable case of monkeypox in a resident of Santa Clara County. This case is not connected to the first case, and further information about the individual will not be released for reasons of medical privacy. If confirmed, this will be the second case of monkeypox reported in Santa Clara County. The person preliminarily tested positive for monkeypox virus after seeking medical care, the case was reported to the Public Health Department as required, and confirmation of the case is pending CDC testing. The individual is in isolation. The Public Health Department is contacting all individuals who might have come in contact with this individual while they were contagious.  

The Public Health Department is working with local medical providers to increase their awareness of the symptoms of monkeypox, how to prevent transmission, and appropriate reporting to state and local health authorities.
