Smoke-Free Parks and Recreation, Restaurants, Work Places

Communities around the County are taking steps to protect the health of their residents by implementing smoke-free policies that reduce their exposure to secondhand smoke in outdoor areas, and some indoor areas not covered by the California smoke-free workplace law. Examples include policies which prohibit smoking around building entryways, at recreation areas such as parks and trails, placing additional provisions in workplaces, and other areas such as outdoor dining spaces. In addition, several categories of worksites were exempt from the California smoke-free workplace law, such as hotel and motels rooms and lobbies, long-term health care facilities, private home childcare centers, warehouses, and smaller worksites. As a result, many employees across the state are not protected from secondhand smoke exposure in their workplace.
