Medical Marijuana

The Medical Marijuana Program is a program of the State of California that was established following the passage of SB 420 that requires counties to administer a voluntary card registration program that identifies medical marijuana patients.

If you have a chronic illness or medical issue that allows you to use medical marijuana for treatment, you may be eligible for a Medical Marijuana Identification Card.

How do I get a card?

In order to apply for the Medical Marijuana Identification Card, you must provide written documentation from a licensed physician verifying that medical marijuana is needed to treat your medical condition, proof of residency, a government-issued photo identification, and a non-refundable fee payment (we do not accept cash. We accept credit, debit, money order or check):

  • $10 for each medical marijuana identification card
  • $5 for Medi-Cal beneficiaries and seniors 55 years of age and over

Please see our MMICP Processing Options for Medical Marijuana Identification Card processing options. Current processing times are between 4 to 6 weeks.
