As many public health officials have noted, airports present an elevated risk of exposure to COVID-19 given the number of people passing through from different locations. The risk is likely greater for airport workers, who spend long periods of time in that environment. While the Public Health Department is not currently recommending closure of the airport given the significant societal harms lack of access to travel would cause, we continue to recommend that persons at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 avoid all air travel, and that businesses cancel non-essential travel.
