Active and Safe Transportation
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death due to unintentional injuries in Santa Clara County. Creating a safe environment where people can live, work, and play requires addressing all of the risk areas that impact the health and well-being of Santa Clara County's residents. The Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention has teamed up with a broad network of public health agencies, community based organizations, pedestrian and bicycle advocates, law enforcement, school officials, community leaders and local citizens to address traffic safety issues in the County using a multifaceted approach know as the 5 E's: Education, Enforcement, Engineering, Encouragement, and Evaluation. The program has launched initiatives and offers programs for Santa Clara County residents to help reduce injuries and deaths due to traffic accidents.
